Calling all actors, singers and dancers ages 7 through adult.

The Leawood Stage Company will hold auditions for Fiddler on the Roof on Saturday, March 3rd from 11:00 am to 2:30 pm and Sunday March 4th from 1:00 to 3:30 pm at Church of the Nativity, 3800 West 119th Street (119th & Mission Road). Enter the building through the front entrance. Audition applications will be accepted 30 minutes prior to the end of each time period. Call backs will be held at the Lodge at Ironwoods Park on Monday evening March 5th by appointment.

Leawood Stage Company is pleased to welcome Julie Ewing as director of her first production with Leawood. Julie has worked in video and film production and for many of the theater companies throughout the metropolitan area. Julie Ewing has put together an amazing artistic team consisting of Emmy Award winning Music Director, Darin Parker and Choreographer Marc Wayne, known to the Kansas City Arts scene for his work with Störling Dance Theater and his own acclaimed contemporary jazz/modern company Maxxas Dance Theatre.

Fiddler on the Roof is simply Broadway at its very best. This musical includes some of the most loved songs the world over. Its celebrated score by Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick features songs such as “Sunrise, Sunset”, “If I Were A Rich Man”, and “Matchmaker”.

Based on Sholem Aleichem’s stories by special permission of Arnold Perl, Fiddler on the Roof is rich in historical and ethnic detail. In the little village of Anatevka, Tevye, a poor dairyman, tries to instill in his five daughters the traditions of his tight-knit Jewish community in the face of changing social mores and the growing anti-Semitism of Czarist Russia.

The show has touched audiences around the world with its humor, warmth and honesty. The universal theme of tradition cuts across barriers of race, class, nationality and religion, leaving audiences crying tears of laughter, joy and sadness

We encourage performers with all types of backgrounds, ethnicity and experience from 7 to 77 to audition. Be a part of this fabulous community theater experience where the Leawood Stage Company focuses on family fun for the 14th year. Fiddler on the Roof features great roles for adults and teens.

Everyone auditioning must be prepared to sing 16 measures from any musical, other than Fiddler on the Roof, with live accompaniment. There will be an accompanist provided so all those who audition are requested to bring sheet music in your key. Everyone should also be prepared to participate in a short dance/movement audition. Comfortable dress and shoes are suggested for the dance audition. Bring a photo and resume if available. No appointment time is necessary.

The production of Fiddler on the Roof will be performed July 12, 13, 14, 15 & 19, 20, 21, at the Ironwoods Amphitheater in Ironwoods Park. Rehearsals will begin June 3rd and will run Sunday through Thursday evenings.

Additional opportunities for staff, volunteers and orchestra members are available. For more information contact April Bishop at the City of Leawood, 913-339-6700 x157, or Email stageco@leawood.org, or go to the LSC website at www.leawoodstageco.org.

LSC is pleased to welcome back Eric Van Horn as director for the second time in Leawood. Van Horn last directed Brigadoon for LSC in the summer of 2009. Most of Van Horn’s talented staff has worked for the City of Leawood in past productions. This promises to be a fun filled summer for the Leawood Stage Company and its audiences.

Bye Bye Birdie is a Broadway musical satire of Mid-century Modern America. The story centers around Conrad Birdie, an Elvis Presley type rock & roll singer, who is about to be inducted into the army. Birdie travels to Sweet Apple, Ohio to give a typical teen-age girl from his fan club a good-bye kiss on the Ed Sullivan Show.

With book by Michael Stewart, music by Charles Strouse, and lyrics by Lee Adams, Bye Bye Birdie is a blast of imagination and frivolity. Bye Bye Birdie will be performed July 14, 15, 16, 17, & 21, 22, 23, at the Ironwoods Amphitheater in Ironwoods Park.

Additional opportunities for staff, volunteers and orchestra members are available.

Join Honorary Chairs, Peggy and Terry Dunn for the Amphitheater of Dreams Gala 2010 as we roll out the master plan for the vision of a new Ironwoods Amphitheater. The Gala celebration will take place the evening of April 16th at the Lodge in Ironwoods Park starting at 7:00 pm.

The Amphitheater of Dreams Gala will be themed to the Stage Company’s 2010 summer musical production, Guys & Dolls. Dress as a “Guy” or “Doll” from any decade. The evening will feature dinner by Yia Yia’s Euro Bistro, with drinks by Boulevard Brewing and Rimann Liquors. Entertainment will be presented by Comedy to Go. Door prizes provided by Leawood Chamber of Commerce members. Enjoy the festivities, see the future plans, and stay to dance.

The Leawood Amphitheater Steering Committee, in coordination with The Leawood Stage Company, the Leawood Arts Council and the Leawood Foundation, will begin a campaign to raise funds to develop the current simple amphitheater space into a first-class performing arts facility for the community. Hear how each person in the community can participate in building this dream for the future.

Since 1998 the volunteers of the Leawood Stage Company and the Leawood Arts Council have worked in partnership with the City of Leawood and the Leawood Parks and Recreation Department to provide quality entertainment, while educating and enriching lives in the local community.

Tickets for the Gala are $50 per person, and include VIP seating during the summer production of Guys & Dolls for attendees. Corporate sponsorships or donations of goods and services are welcomed. The Leawood Stage Company and the Leawood Foundation are 501c3 organizations, therefore your contributions are tax deductible. All proceeds from this event will go directly to the building of a performance stage for the Ironwoods Amphitheater.

Space is limited and reservations must be made by April 5th. For reservations or information on how to become a Gala Sponsor, please contact the Leawood Parks and Recreation Cultural Arts Office at (913) 339-6700, ext. 157, or go to the LSC website at www.leawoodstageco.org or Email stageco@leawood.org.

LSC is pleased to welcome back Chris McCoy as director for the second time in Leawood. We welcome Todd Burd as musical director. McCoy’s vision sets Guys & Dolls in Damon Runyon’s mythical New York City of the 1930s. This romantic comedy introduces us to a cast of vivid characters from gamblers and showgirls, to mission reformers along with the citizens of New York and Havana.

Guys & Dolls is often called “Broadway’s perfect musical”. The Leawood Stage Company will celebrate the Tony-award winner’s 60th Anniversary of its debut on Broadway with this free production to be performed July 15, 16, 17, 18, & 22, 23, 24, at the Ironwoods Amphitheater in Ironwoods Park.

Additional opportunities for staff, volunteers and orchestra members are available. For more information go to the LSC website at www.leawoodstageco.org or contact April Bishop at the City of Leawood, 913-339-6700 x157, or Email stageco@leawood.org.

The Leawood Stage Company will for the very first time present a unique concert style production in the Oak Room of Leawood City Hall this October. LSC will present a Broadway style musical as a concert to be read and sung. The show, SHE LOVES MEis based on Parfumerie by Miklos Laszlo. Book by Joe Masteroff, music by Jerry Bock, and lyrics by Sheldon Harnick. SHE LOVES ME is considered by many to be the most charming musical ever written.

Adaptions of Parfumerie spawned this musical and three films; The Shop Around the Corner in 1940 starring Margaret Sullivan and James Stewart, s musical version In the Good Old Summer Time in 1949 starring Judy Garland and Van Johnson, and most recently in 1998 You’ve Got Mail starring Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks.

Synopsis

The synopsis of the show is as follows: Georg and Amalia are two feuding clerks in a European parfumerie during the 1930s who secretly find solace in their anonymous romantic pen pals, little knowing their respective correspondents are none other than each other. Funny, intelligent, honest and sentimental, SHE LOVES ME is a warm romantic comedy with an endearing innocence and a touch of old world elegance and nostalgia, yet as universal and relevant as ever in this age of internet romances.

Daily Itinerary:

Wednesday, Sept. 23: Meet your guides Chad and Liz at the airport this morning. We’ll board our early morning Midwest Airlines flight to LaGuardia Airport, and upon arrival have our very own private transpor-tation to the historic and charming Algonquin Hotel (My Fair Lady was written here) on West 44th St. in mid-town Manhattan. Here, we’ll be steeped in the history of the American theatre, New York City, and the writers of the Algonquin Round Table. The hotel is within walking dis-tance to Times Square, Central Park, Rockefeller Center, Grand Central Terminal, and Fifth Avenue shopping.
After check-in, the afternoon is free to explore Times Square, have lunch at the Oyster Bar at Grand Central, or just relax in the inviting Algonquin lobby. Tonight, everyone meet in the hotel lobby. We will walk together to Times Square for dinner with wine at THE VIEW, New York City’s only revolving rooftop restaurant. From 47 floors up “the view” of the Manhattan skyline is breathtaking.
After dinner we have prime seats for a performance of JERSEY BOYS, winner of 5 Tony Awards, and still one of the hottest shows on Broadway. This popular show is the story of the legendary Four Seasons. After the show you are free to explore the nightlife of Times Square or return to the hotel. There’s nothing in New York like the Algonquin lobby for getting together after theatre for some celebrity watching.
Spend five days, four nights in the Big Apple with The Leawood Stage Company! Have the best seats to the hottest shows on Broadway, with a nice blend of group activities and things to do on your own. This trip is sure to be unforgettable, so don’t wait! Make your reservations today as the trip will be full soon!

Thursday, Sept. 24: This morning we will board a private coach with a our guide Chad Gerlt and our eccentric New York tour guide, Jane Marx. Jane has had mul-tiple TV appearances, including Late Night with David Letterman. We’ll learn about the history of Broadway, visit Central Park, Lincoln Center, Greenwich Village, Brooklyn Bridge, Wall Street, and Battery Park. The tour will make several stops during our trip for a closer look at key points in Manhattan including the site of the World Trade Center.
The tour concludes at the Snapple Theatre on Broadway, where we will a meet some special Broadway guests. We’ll have a piano ready and our entertainment will regale us with some B’way stories and sing us a few songs. The remainder of the afternoon is free.
Tonight, we have tickets to BILLY ELLIOT. Based on the movie of the same name, this is the hottest show on Broadway right now, and the show has terrific music written by Elton John. Billy Elliot is the story of a boy who wants to be a ballet dancer, even though his father wants him to box.

Friday, Sept. 25: The entire day is free for you to enjoy as you please. As an option, enjoy Autumn in New York as Chad will be guiding a walking tour for a closer look at Central Park. Or, you may join Liz for a Fifth Avenue shopping spree. Tonight you’re on your own. However, Chad will be happy to help you make plans or arrange tickets for you. Perhaps you’d like to enjoy a cabaret show at the Algonquin’s world-famous Oak Room, or experi-ence the jazz scene at The Birdland. How about another Broadway show?

Saturday, Sept. 26: The day is free for you to explore New York on your own. Your guides, Chad and Liz will be available to assist you in planning your day or getting tickets to a Saturday matinee performance if you need help (see registration form).
Tonight, we’ll celebrate our time together with dinner and cocktails aboard the World Yacht. With a two-level dining room, spacious outdoor sundeck, music, danc-ing, and dazzling views of the most famous skyline in the world, the evening will be a night to remember. Trans-portation to and from the pier will be provided.

Sunday, Sept. 27: Spend a quiet, leisurely Sunday morning in New York. Perhaps you’d like to go to mass at St. Patrick’s Cathedral? We’ll check out of the hotel by noon, making a couple stops on our bus trip to the airport. First we’ll stop by Zabar’s, the famous NY deli landmark at 80th & Broadway. This is an opportunity to eat lunch, and take home a pound of pastrami and a bag of bagels – the ultimate NYC experience.
Finally, we will have a brief visit to see the amazing architecture of The Cathedral of St. John the Divine. You won’t believe your eyes as it is the 2nd largest cathedral in the world, and is almost exactly two football fields in length (601 feet). From there, the bus departs to LaGuardia in plenty of time for our Midwest Airlines non-stop flight to Kansas City.

Price:

$2,395 Per Person/Double Occupancy
Airfare is included in the above price
