LSC is pleased to welcome back Chris McCoy as director for the second time in Leawood. We welcome Todd Burd as musical director. McCoy’s vision sets Guys & Dolls in Damon Runyon’s mythical New York City of the 1930s. This romantic comedy introduces us to a cast of vivid characters from gamblers and showgirls, to mission reformers along with the citizens of New York and Havana.

Guys & Dolls is often called “Broadway’s perfect musical”. The Leawood Stage Company will celebrate the Tony-award winner’s 60th Anniversary of its debut on Broadway with this free production to be performed July 15, 16, 17, 18, & 22, 23, 24, at the Ironwoods Amphitheater in Ironwoods Park.

Additional opportunities for staff, volunteers and orchestra members are available. For more information go to the LSC website at www.leawoodstageco.org or contact April Bishop at the City of Leawood, 913-339-6700 x157, or Email stageco@leawood.org.

The Leawood Stage Company is pleased to present a two woman dramatic reading of “Mary & Myra” by Catherine Filloux in the Oak Room on the lower level of Leawood City Hall, 4800 Town Center Drive on March 6, 7 & 8, 2009. Friday and Saturday performances will begin at 8:00 p.m. A Sunday matinee will begin at 2:00 pm.

In the summer of 1875, Mary Todd Lincoln resides in an insane asylum, sent there by her only son. Her friend Myra Bradwell, America’s first woman lawyer, arrives to help Mary gain her release. Myra’s motives and Mary’s sanity are up for debate as they grapple with their pasts and perceptions of freedom and womanhood.

“Mary & Myra” comes to life through the performances of Petra Allen and Marilyn Lynch under the direction of Art Suskin. The Leawood Stage Company invites the community to attend this moving production for free.

Additionally, LSC will host a unique opportunity for audiences to meet the New York City playwright, Catherine Filloux. Ms. Filloux will come to Leawood to attend the evening performances of “Mary & Myra”. Following the performances there will be a question and answer period with the playwright. Find out how she was inspired to write the play and about her process.

Don’t miss this dramatic production and a thrilling chance to interact with the author. Enjoy light refreshments at a reception for Catherine Filloux following the production on Friday and Saturday nights.

Be a part of this community theater experience as the Leawood Stage Company begins their 11th season of presenting high quality, free entertainment.
